Hurricanes Wrap up a Strong Season

The Louisburg Volleyball team's season finished up on Friday in the Region X Conference Tournament. The Canes dropped an extremely tight match to Pitt Community College in five sets. The Canes finished 4th in the conference with a conference record of 8-4, the highest season ranking dating back past 2012. Due to an injury to Canes freshman setter, Skye McCollum, the setting role was performed by a combination of Outside Hitter, Jailee Johnson and Defensive Specialist, Lindsay Kirby. Both players recorded career highs in assists with 18 and 23 respectively. Following the announcement that Johnson was voted to the All Conference 1st Team, Johnson delivered an outstanding performance adding 17 kills, 8 blocks, and 5 digs to her assists total.

Sophomores Aliza Williams and Elizabeth Tuton were voted to the All Conference 2nd Team. Williams racked up 25 digs, 2 aces, and 2 assists through the contest while Tuton provided 7 kills, 7 digs, 6 blocks, and 2 aces. Rounding out the team's sophomores was Faith Ankner who blasted a season high 19 kills (one below her career high of 20) and 13 digs.

In the final set, Louisburg was trailing 5-10 before pulling back to within 1 at 13-14. Coach Paulk had this to say about the match, "I was very impressed with the team's performance today. We had a lot of adversity, needing players to perform outside of their typical position but they stepped up without complaint. Team morale was at an all time high, we never gave up, and the intensity on the court was fun to watch."

After the match, the sophomores could be spotted being introduced to recruiters and coaches interested in having them move on to their program when they leave Louisburg.
