Volleyball wins in 1st round

Louisburg College Volleyball competed in the Region X Tournament in Chesapeake, Va. Louisburg pulled off the upset vs Bryant and Stratton to advance to the second round.

The Hurricanes lost to Bryant and Stratton during the regular season in three straight sets in September. But the Hurricanes turned the table in the tournament match-up– winning 3-2 in five games.

"Offensively, we worked on being patient and understanding when we had an opportunity to score, versus when we needed to focus on recovering and putting pressure on the defense. It was a huge game changer for us," according to Head Coach Iilani Meyers.

Louisburg was led by All-Region Jadyn Powell, 27 kills, 8 service aces and 35 total points, Jamia Seals, 28 assists and Ta'Jah Pittman with 13.5 points.

A major factor in the turnaround for the Hurricanes was a huge defensive effort.

"Our defense has been really impressive all year and was even better during this game. Our mindset changed significantly, and we were able to dig more balls and score in defensive transitions more often," said Meyers.

Grace Braxton and Milani Mcgill paced the Hurricanes defensive effort with 20 and 19 digs respectively.

"Bryant & Stratton is a great team and their gym was filled with energy. We fought really hard and executed our game plan very well! I'm really excited for round two,"commented Meyers.

The next round will be played Friday at Fayetteville Tech against Cleveland Community College.
