Women’s soccer falls to USC Sumter at Home

In a competitive match at home, the Louisburg College Hurricanes women's soccer team suffered a narrow 2-3 defeat to the USC Sumter Fire Ants. Despite a strong second-half rally, the Hurricanes couldn't overcome the Fire Ants' early lead.

The game began with USC Sumter scoring first. Briza Villagrana opened the scoring just five minutes into the first period, assisted by Pessy Losah. The Fire Ants extended their lead just before halftime when Karely Gonzalez scored with Villagrana providing the assist, making it 2-0.

In the second half, the Fire Ants added to their advantage with a goal from Makariya Rouse, who received another assist from Villagrana, pushing the score to 3-0. However, the Hurricanes responded with renewed energy. Martha Carmona de la Rosa scored in the 65th minute from a free kick to make it 3-1. Ten minutes later, Hailey Joiner netted from the penalty spot, after Ziera Mitchell won a foul in the box, bringing Louisburg College within one goal at 3-2.

Despite their efforts, the Hurricanes were unable to find an equalizer. The USC Fire Ants received a yellow card in the 75th minute.

The loss is a tough blow for Louisburg College, but their spirited comeback in the second half showed promise for their upcoming matches.
