Women’s Basketball beats Catawba Valley in thriller

Louisburg College emerged victorious over Catawba Valley Community College with a 69-62 win. The game saw multiple momentum shifts, with Louisburg outscoring Catawba Valley 26-9 in the final quarter to close out the thrilling contest. Despite a strong performance from Catawba Valley, Louisburg's late-game execution proved to be the difference.

Game Recap:

The game kicked off with both teams exchanging baskets in a tight first quarter. Louisburg edged out Catawba Valley by a slim 11-10 margin at the end of the first. The second quarter continued in a similar fashion, with Louisburg holding onto a slight advantage at halftime, 28-27.

Catawba Valley came out of the locker room fired up and surged ahead in the third quarter. A balanced offensive effort allowed CVCC to score 23 points, pushing their lead to 53-45 heading into the final frame. However, the game was far from over.

Louisburg roared back in the fourth quarter with a dominant 26-point outburst, powered by timely shooting and tight defense. Catawba Valley struggled to score in the final period, managing only 9 points, as Louisburg held on for the 69-62 win.

Key Performances:

  • MiQuishia Patterson was the standout performer for Louisburg, finishing with 14 points on 6-11 shooting, including 1-3 from deep. Patterson also added 4 rebounds and 2 assists, keeping her team competitive throughout the game.

  • Carolina Coria provided a solid performance, tallying 7 points, 2 assists, and 1 steal. Her efficiency at the free-throw line, where she went 5-6, was crucial in keeping her team within striking distance.

  • Jade Clowney, coming off the bench, contributed 16 points, making 2 of 6 from the field and an impressive 11-12 from the free-throw line. Clowney's ability to score from the charity stripe helped keep the game close during critical moments.

Louisburg College Head Coach reflected on the game: "I'm proud of the team for their grit in the second half. We struggled a bit early, but we dug deep and found a way to get the job done. We've been working on closing out games, and tonight we did just that. It's a gutsy win for us, and we need to build on this momentum moving forward", said Coach Gaskins.
