2nd Ranked Softball Set to Host Region X Final Four

The Region X Regular Season Champion and nationally 2nd ranked Louisburg College Softball team is hosting the Final Four of the Region X Tournament this Saturday and Sunday, May 5th and 6th.  Joining the top seeded Hurricanes in the tournament field will be nationally 8th ranked Catawba Valley (#2 seed), Bryant & Stratton (#3 seed), and Cleveland Community College (#5 seed).

Currently the Hurricanes lead the nation in 8 team offensive categories: runs scored (653), home runs (179), extra-base hits (303), RBI (586), base on balls (239), stolen bases (220), on base percentage (.500) and slugging percentage (.863).

Louisburg also has national leaders in individual offensive categories. Four Hurricanes are in the top 10 nationally in homeruns. Bri Tucker leads the nation with 42, Kennedy Byrd is second with 31, Edi Austin is fifth with 26, and Taylor McQueen is sixth with 24.  Darrah Nickens was the fifth Louisburg player to join the 20 home run club when she belted a pair of long balls Monday night in the Hurricanes' final tune up against Florence-Darlington Tech.

Bri Tucker leads the nation with 99 RBI, while Taylor McQueen is currently fifth with 86 RBI. Kennedy Byrd leads the nation with 54 base on balls. Averie Ottaly currently has 53 stolen bases–fourth in the country. Bri Tucker has 47–eighth in the country.

Louisburg pitchers are tied for the top spot in the country with number 1 nationally ranked Murray State boasting an ERA of 1.30.  They currently sit 5th in the nation with 364 strikeouts. Zoey Jones leads the nation with 27 wins while Kennedy Byrd sits fourth nationally with 21. Jones is also third in the nation with a 0.80 ERA and Byrd sits fourth with a 1.13 ERA.

The Hurricanes will open the two day event on Friday at Noon with an opening round matchup with Cleveland.  Games will follow at 2:30pm, 4:30pm and 6:30pm on Friday.  Play will resume on Saturday at noon in the double elimination format tournament. The Championship Game is slated for Saturday at 2:30pm with an if necessary game to be played 30 minutes following the conclusion of that game.

Tickets will be available the day of games and are $10.  Louisburg College students and staff will receive a free admission to the event with a valid student ID. All games will be streamed live on Louisburg College's Official YouTube Channel and Region10Sports.com will have updates throughout the duration of the tournament.

The winner of the tournament will head to Florida the weekend of May 13-14 to face off with the Region 8 Champion for the South Atlantic District Championship.  The winner of the South Atlantic District gets an automatic bid to the NJCAA Division II Softball World Series to be held in Spartanburg, SC from May 23-27 at Tyger River Park and Stadium.
