Bio

David Bagwell was added as an assistant coach for Louisburg men’s basketball in 2019. He joins his son, Bryan, for the second time in this capacity—most recently having served at Lenoir Community College.

“I’m excited to have the chance to work together again,” says head coach Bryan Bagwell. “After seeing the impact my dad has made on student-athletes for over forty years, I wanted to make sure that influence continued here at Louisburg.”

Before two years at Lenoir, David Bagwell was a long-time high school coach who was inducted in the Johnston County Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013. Bagwell was the girls’ basketball coach at North Johnston High School from 1987-2011. During that time his teams won 454 games, had 9 conference championships (1993, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009), and made the NCHSAA state playoffs for 22 straight years (1989-2011). Bagwell helped 11 players move on to NCAA DI, DII, DIII programs. He also began North Johnston’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter.

Before North Johnston, Bagwell taught at Carnage Middle School (1977-1979), Whitley Middle School (1979-1987), and coached football at East Wake High School (1979-1987).

Bagwell graduated from Wake Forest University in 1977 with a BS in Physical Education and Health. He and his wife Susan reside in Raleigh, NC.
