Bryan Bagwell was hired as the head coach for Louisburg College men’s basketball in July 2019. In his first year as head coach he guided the program to a 21-12 record and a NJCAA national tournament appearance which was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Bryan had all of the attributes we were looking for,'' said LC Athletic Director Mike Holloman. “One thing Bryan understands from his experience is how to recruit on the junior college level. Coach Bagwell is also in it for the right reasons – he values relationships with players and values serving as a role model for them.”

For the past 19 years Bagwell has been a head coach and an assistant coach in both men’s and women’s basketball. He has worked at levels including NCAA, NJCAA, and high school.

Bryan Bagwell joined the Louisburg men’s basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach in the fall of 2018. Previous head men’s basketball coach Neil Dixon said, “The experience Bryan brings will pay huge dividends for the program.  He brings great enthusiasm, an incredible work ethic, and an impressive knowledge in all aspects.”

For the 2017-2018 season, Bagwell served the University of Mount Olive as Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach after a previous four-year stent from 2008-2012. In 2018 he worked to develop the Conference Carolinas Player of the Year who also finished second in voting for Hero Sports D2 Women’s Basketball National Player of the Year. According to Mount Olive Head Coach Wendy Lee, “Bryan brings with him a tremendous work ethic and a strong attention to detail that I really appreciate in a coach. Bryan has a genuine passion for teaching the game and a clear understanding of what it means to help develop great people, not just great players.”

During his previous stent at Mount Olive, Bagwell assisted in three Conference Carolinas regular season second place finishes (2009, 2011, 2012), and two Conference Carolinas Tournament runner-up finishes (2009, 2011). He was the recruiting coordinator and was responsible for skill development for both guards and post players. Bagwell also coached two second-team All-Region selections (2009, 2011), one Conference Carolinas’ Player of the Year (2010-2011), and seven all-conference selections. Bagwell also helped manage the team’s academic success at Mount Olive. One such student-athlete was a two-time CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District First Team honoree (2010, 2011) and graduated Summa Cum Laude garnering the highest academic average at Mount Olive College in 2011.

Before serving at the University of Mount Olive, Bagwell spent two years as the head coach for Men’s Basketball at Lenoir Community College. There he mentored young men and tried to help them reach their future goals of playing at four-year universities. Beyond basketball, Bagwell organized a series of off-the-floor lectures to further the development of the student-athlete as a whole person.

“Coach Bryan Bagwell was one of my best hires as an Athletic Director,” says Lenoir Community College Athletic Director, Shelly Barnes, “Not only did Bryan understand the game, he came more prepared than any coach I’ve worked with, was always professional, and fun to be around. Bryan was all in--all in for the betterment of the player on the court; all in for the player in the classroom; and most importantly, in life.”

During the 2014-2015 season, Bagwell was an assistant coach for Louisburg College Women’s Basketball. There he was in charge of all opposition scouting reports, and he was instrumental in skill development which propelled several student-athletes to NCAA Division I and Division II scholarships.

Prior to Louisburg, Bagwell was at Mars Hill University where he coached the South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year (2014). Bagwell helped the Lions to two Second Team All-Conference Selections (2013,2014) and one All-SAC Freshman Team Selection (2013). In 2014, Bagwell led a campaign in conjunction with local businesses to help Mars Hill raise funds for the Play 4Kay Foundation.

Before any of his collegiate experience, Bagwell served as assistant girl’s high school coach at North Johnston High School (2004-2008) and assistant boy's high school coach at Western Guilford High School (2003-2004).

Bagwell graduated from Wake Forest University with a B.A. in History. He and his wife, Camille, have a one year-old daughter, Simone, and reside in Raleigh, N.C.
