Men's Basketball advances to Second Round of Region X Tournament

Louisburg College men's basketball defeated Patrick Henry Community College last night 104-79 in the first round of the Region X tournament.

The first half was even for most of the 20 minutes: 9-10 (16:00); 17-17 (12:00); 24-24 (8:00). By halftime Patrick Henry was able to gain a 2 point advantage. However, in the second half things changed. Louisburg went on to hit 9 three-point baskets and collect 13 offensive rebounds in the second half. The Hurricanes were able to stretch the lead to 7 at the midway point of the last 20 minutes and never looked back.

"We did a good job maintaining tempo in the second half against their zone. We played inside out and made some shots," said Louisburg coach Bryan Bagwell. "Among the other guys, it was fun to see JahQuez [Sanders] stick his nose in there as a point guard and get some put backs for us that changed the game."

Sophomore Jordan Beale led Louisburg with 28 points including 6 three-point field goals. Terrelle Bowens and Amari Brown combined to be 14-17 from the free throw line. DeShone Hicks had 5 assists in the early going and then capped off the night with two deep threes for the Hurricanes. He finished with 18 points.

The win moves the Hurricanes to 19-11 on the season as the tournament continues Thursday against Florida Gateway College at 7 pm. The remainder of the Region X tournament will be played at North Carolina Wesleyan College.
