Men's Basketball downs Catawba Valley

Louisburg College men's basketball defeated Catawba Valley Community College at Roger Taylor Arena this weekend 92-81.

The Hurricanes got off to a good start early leading 12-8 after 4 minutes, but by halftime Catawba Valley had taken the lead 40-36.

"Catawba Valley raced the ball down the floor and made everybody do their job in transition, and that set the tone for a good college basketball game," said coach Bryan Bagwell. "Coach Garmroth's teams always play physical and make you do your work early around the rim."

The Hurricanes tied the game up at 45-45 by the 16-minute mark in the second half and were able to outscore Catawba Valley by 11 in the remaining minutes to come away with the victory.

"I was very pleased with our approach today," said Coach Bagwell. "The guys decided to win before the game started, and no matter what the score was we never changed our mind."

In the game the Hurricanes gave up 12 offensive rebounds, but were able to collect 20 of their own including 9 from Bass Diop and 5 from Terrelle Bowens. Freshman, Malik Bryant, led the Hurricanes in scoring with 17 points (8-10 FT).

The Hurricanes have a quick turnaround as they will head to Fayetteville Technical Community College on Monday to take on the Trojans at 7:00 pm.
