In a hard-fought battle at the Cayce Complex, Louisburg College faced a tough Georgia Military College, ultimately succumbing 38-17. The game showcased the resilience of the Hurricanes, who rallied in the second half but were unable to overcome an early onslaught from GMC.
The first quarter saw Georgia Military jump to a commanding lead, scoring 17 points before Louisburg could get on the board. The scoring started with a 1-yard touchdown run from #8 Keenan Phillips, followed by a 21-yard field goal from #37 Freddy Perez. Just before the quarter ended, GMC's #11 Javon Kinchen made a spectacular play, returning a fumble 33 yards for a touchdown, leaving the score at 17-0.
The second quarter continued the trend, with GMC's Phillips adding another touchdown on a 9-yard run, extending the lead to 24-0. Louisburg struggled to find its rhythm, both offensively and defensively, as GMC's rushing attack kept the pressure on.
It wasn?t until the third quarter that Louisburg found its footing. After two back-to-back touchdowns by GMC's Trevon Kinchen, bringing the score to 38-0, the Hurricanes finally broke through. Quarterback Dylan Trevillian connected with #88 Jabari Rone for a 5-yard touchdown pass, marking Louisburg's first points of the game.
The Hurricanes didn?t stop there. In the fourth quarter, they added a 32-yard field goal from Jesse Viens, followed by a 31-yard touchdown run by #7 Jameson Prince, capping off their scoring for the day at 17 points.
Despite the loss, several players stood out for Louisburg. Trevillian completed 6 of 12 passes for 68 yards and a touchdown. Prince, who also played a pivotal role in the running game, rushed for 36 yards and a touchdown. Rone led the receiving corps with three catches for 41 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Georgia Military College proved to be a formidable opponent, tallying eight sacks and forcing two fumbles. Their aggressive defense stifled Louisburg's passing game, limiting them to just 128 yards through the air while dominating the time of possession.
Louisburg's coach expressed pride in his team?s second-half efforts but acknowledged the need for improvement moving forward. "We showed resilience in the second half, but we have to learn to start stronger. Our focus now is on building from this experience," Coach Q stated.
With this loss, Louisburg College will regroup and look ahead to their next matchup against Myrtle Beach Collegiate on Saturday, October 12th at home.
