Bio

Athletic Director Mike Holloman has announced the addition of Christopher L. Outlaw MS, ATC, LAT, FMT as Head Athletic Trainer for Louisburg College's 13 varsity NJCAA athletic programs.

"We are excited to have Chris joining our Athletic Staff as our Head Athletic Trainer," said Holloman. "Chris has over ten years experience in Collegiate Athletic Training which will be very valuable for Student Athletes. He will be a great fit for Louisburg College."

Chris Outlaw will make the transition to Louisburg after being responsible for the Sports Medicine Department at Division II Shaw University where he oversaw the care of over 300 student-athletes.

Outlaw has been with Shaw University since 2016. He was Head Athletic Trainer from 2019-2023 where he scheduled coverage for all sports practices and games, home and away; coordinated Covid testing for all of athletics; ensured that all insurance issues are handled; maintained a budget for the Sports Medicine department, supervised two assistant athletic trainers, and mentored student athletic trainers–teaching them hands-on skills. He was an assistant athletic trainer at Shaw from 2016 to 2019. Outlaw was also an adjunct instructor for the introductory health class.

Outlaw has stayed active assisting other institutions with their needs for athletic training coverage working with NCCU basketball and football camps, club lacrosse at North Carolina State University, a club soccer tournament at North Carolina State University, the NCAA Division I soccer tournament and the ACC soccer tournament.

Prior to his work at Shaw, Outlaw was at North Carolina Central University from 2014 to 2016 as a Graduate Assistant where he taught Introduction to Physical Education, designed and implemented academic curriculum, and was a Teacher Assistant in Athletic Training Program Classes.

From 2011 to 2014 Outlaw was an Athletic Training Student at North Carolina Central. During this time he worked with the Duke University Baseball program and assisted Duke University Men's Lacrosse and North Carolina Central University Football.

He assisted physical therapists in rehabbing sports related injuries at Triangle Orthopedic Association D1 Rehabilitation Clinic designing rehabilitation programs utilizing agility and plyometric exercises.  

Outlaw is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and North Carolina Athletic Trainers Association. He is certified in Functional Movement Techniques, CPR, First Aid and AED.

Prior to his career as an athletic trainer, Outlaw served in the United States Coast Guard where he received an honorable discharge as well as a Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Ribbon.

A Magna Cum Laude graduate with a Masters in Science in Athletic Administration from North Carolina Central University, Outlaw also received his Bachelors of Science degree in Athletic Training from NCCU. He completed an Associates Degree in Science at Durham Technical Community College.

Outlaw and his wife Amy reside in Garner, NC.
