Hurricanes Cross Country finish strong at the Chick Fil A invite

Hurricane Cross Country headed to Salisbury for the Chick-Fil-A invite. The men's team finished 2nd overall only one point behind the eventual team winner Wingate. Jack mastandrea led the canes for the second year in a row at this event, finishing with a stunning final kick to finish second overall in the 8,000 meter race running 26:38.

The women finished 5th/15 overall as a team, good for the middle of the field.

1st time team leader for the lady canes was Haley Sheehan running 22:12

"Overall I think both teams accomplished what we came here to do today: compete strongly, let the freshman men get their first chance at figuring out how to run 8k, and shake off the racing rust," stated 1st year Head Coach Joshua Hayman.

"The men ran as a great pack, especially under muddy and wet conditions, and nearly pulled off the team win with a tight spread between scorers Jack, Javier, Kyle, Coleman, and Jacob."

"Freshman Kyle Hinson performed excellent in his debut showing for us. I am also excited to see the development of our young women's team that is mostly freshmen this year"

The Hurricane women will travel to Myrtle Beach next week for the Costal Carolina Invitational while the men take a week off from racing until they head to Appalachian state for the Mountain to Sea Invitational
