Canes Dominate at Mondo Invitational

Facing mostly Division One and Two competition, the Louisburg College track and field team had a great day en route to multiple victories at the Mondo College Invitational in Winston-Salem on Sunday.

On the Men's side the success started at the first event, as both Aveon Reid and Naseem Page made the 60 Hurdles Finals. Reid finished with the victory in the event. The Canes also put three athletes in the 60 Meter Dash Finals with Tyler Burns, Jakari Long, and Kendrick Lewis all placing in the top 8. TJ English set a new school record in the weight throw.

Louisburg swept the sprinting events the rest of the way. Tyler Burns won the 200m in a school record time, while Brichon Shepherd won the 400 Meter Dash in his first race for the Canes.

To cap the day the 4X400 team of Naseem Alston, Devan Crow, Zaire Jordan, and Brichon Shepherd edged NCAA Division One School Davidson for the win in a very exciting race.

On the Women's side PR's and Season's Best dominated the afternoon. Bethany Blackwell kicked off the meet with a solid PR in the 200 Meter race with Domonique Branch also running well. In the 400m, Ashley Pearce ran a season's best in the 400, while Alana Morgan cut an astounding 20 seconds off her season's best in the mile.

The Hurricanes continue their season this Sunday at the Captain's Invitational at Christopher Newport University.
