Women's Basketball hosting Play4Kay game on Thursday, January 25

LOUISBURG, NC — Louisburg College Women's Basketball is set to host Fayetteville Technical CC at 4:30 pm on Thursday, January 25 at Roger Taylor Arena in a Play4Kay event, a meaningful collaboration with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Spectators at the game will have the opportunity to contribute to the fund through donations. The first $200 donated will be matched by the Louisburg College coaching staff.

Since its inception in 2007, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund has awarded $7.88 million to support scientific research and projects that serve the underserved in the fight against all cancers affecting women. Play4Kay is the largest fundraising initiative of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Olympic gold medal-winning and Naismith Hall of Fame coach, Kay Yow, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and passed away on January 24, 2009. Coach Yow did not lose her battle to cancer. She simply turned the battle over to all of us.

Both teams share profound connections with the legendary Coach Kay Yow. Louisburg's Head Coach, Jason Rasnake, who spent eight years having been a part of Coach Yow's staff at NC State from 2001-2009, holds a deep affinity for the cause. Fayetteville Tech's Head Coach, Peace Shepard Easton , played for Coach Yow at NC State where she helped the team reach the final four in 1998.

The Hurricanes (12-2, 9-2) currently hold the third position in the NJCAA Region 10 Division II standings, with Fayetteville Tech (7-8, 7-8) currently in seventh place. The first encounter between the two teams took place on November 15, with Louisburg emerging victorious with a score of 94-59.

In addition, the teams will celebrate, Holly Wilson, a former collegiate women's basketball player and cancer survivor prior to the game with a ceremonial tip-off.

Admission is free and the game will be streamed [HERE]
