Women's Basketball Survives Opening Round

Louisburg College Women's Basketball team came out victorious against Patrick & Henry Community College on Monday night in a close game that ended 80-79. The victory advanced the Hurricanes to the quarterfinals of the Region 10 Tournament.

It was a balanced effort from Louisburg College, with five players scoring in double figures. Amiyah Evans had an impressive game, scoring 16 points and grabbing 5 steals.   Kandace Daniels also had 16 points, while  Mikirea Shippy and Dyimond Sturdivant chipped in with 15 and 10 points respectively. Miracle Cornell also had a solid game, scoring 11 points and grabbing 4 rebounds.

Despite shooting only 37% from the field, Louisburg College was able to convert 19 out of 29 free-throw attempts, which ultimately proved to be the difference in the game. 

Both teams struggled with turnovers, combining for 40 turnovers in the game. However, Louisburg College was able to make up for their turnovers with some tough defense, recording 13 steals and a block. They also moved the ball well, recording 12 assists as a team.

This win brings Louisburg College's record to 16-12 on the season and sends the Hurricanes into a quarterfinal matchup with Richard Bland College on Thursday at 5pm on the North Campus of Wake Technical Community College.  For more information on the Region 10 Women's Basketball Tournament [CLICK HERE]
