Women's Basketball Wins Sophomore Night

In the final regular season home game for the Louisburg College women's basketball team, the Lady Hurricanes hung onto a 82-79 win over nearby Wake Technical Community College. The evening started with a celebration of the three Hurricane sophomores, Miracle CornellMikirea Shippy, and Antonia Whorley.

Amiyah Evans was the standout player for Louisburg College, leading her team in scoring with 27 points, hitting 14 of 16 from the free throw line and three three-pointers. Mikirea Shippy was close behind with an impressive 15 points. Antonia Whorley also had a solid performance, scoring four points and grabbing six rebounds.

Trinity Smith opened the scoring for Louisburg with a three-pointer early in the game, and the home team never looked back. Wake Tech tried to mount a comeback, but they were unable to stop Louisburg's offense.

Louisburg led 22-18 at the end of the first quarter. Wake Technical picked up their game in the second quarter, but Louisburg maintained their lead and went into halftime with a 43-38 advantage. Louisburg College continued to play well in the third quarter, but the Eagles made a strong push in the final quarter. However, it was too little too late, and Louisburg held on for the victory.

Louisburg College shot an impressive 43% from the field and pulled down 39 rebounds.

Louisburg will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday, March 1st in a road contest against Fayetteville Technical Community College. The matchup is set to tip at 6pm on the campus of Methodist University in Fayetteville, NC.
