Women's basketball wins first home game of the new year

After falling in their first two matchups since returning to campus, Bryant and Stratton College and Cape Fear Community College respectively; the Hurricanes got back on track at home Wednesday night with a 58-56 win over Catawba Valley Community College.
 
Amiyah Evans and Kandace Daniels combined for 37 points in a defensive matchup that throughout the game saw 9 lead changes and 5 ties.  
 
The Hurricanes shot 13 for 16 (83%) from the free throw line.  Trinity Smith's shot with 1:04 remaining in the 4th quarter was the game's only made three pointer and put the Hurricanes up 54-52.  Catawba Valley scored at the basket on the ensuing possession.  With the game tied at 54, Antonia Whorley made the go ahead bucket to win the game with 1.2 seconds remaining.
 
The Canes return to action this Saturday, January 21 at 1pm against Southwest Virginia Community College in the Roger Taylor Athletic Center on the campus of Louisburg College.  The live stream of the game can be found [here]
