Women's Basketball Wins Sophomore Day

It was sophomore day in Roger Taylor Arena on Saturday as three women's basketball sophomores finished their home playing careers with a win against Brunswick Community College.

The sophomores are: Shelby Ricks–guard from Winter Haven, Florida; Daisa Phillips–6'2 forward from Elizabeth City; and Makayla Everette–6'4 forward from Wilson.

Louisburg got out to an early 23-17 lead and stretched the margin through all four quarters. The final score was 74-59 in the Hurricanes victory.

Shelby Ricks led Louisburg with 24 points. She was 6-12 from the floor, 3-6 from three-point land, and 9-10 from the free throw line. Her performance on sophomore day rivaled her career high at Patrick Henry when she scored 26 points on December 1. Ricks has scored 339 points this year for the Hurricanes.

Makayla Everette recorded a double-double. She had 22 points on 11-15 from the floor to go with 12 rebounds. In her two years with the Hurricanes, Everette has scored 722 points and collected 436 rebounds. Her rebound totals rank 1st in Region 10 and 8th in the country.

"I'm happy for our sophomores to be able to go out on a win in their final game here in Louisburg.  It's always a goal to play our best basketball at the end of the year and hopefully these past two wins will carry us into our last regular season game on Wednesday," said coach Jason Rasnake.

Women's basketball will play their final regular season contest at Wake Tech on Wednesday. Tip off is at 6:00 pm.
