Women's Basketball Unable to Hold On

Louisburg College women's basketball took the court Monday night in a rescheduled game to take on Southwest Virginia Community College. Earlier this season the Hurricanes lost the match up on the road. This game was played at Roger Taylor Arena.

Southwest Virginia took an early lead 17-11, but by half time cut it to 4. Louisburg scored 20 points in the third quarter to go ahead 42-36. Then the tables turned as Southwest Virginia won the last 10 minutes by 11 giving Louisburg the 62-57 loss.

"Even though the result was not what we hoped, I thought we played hard and played as a team tonight," said Louisburg coach Jason Rasnake. "We're starting to put things together on the court, but we still have a lot to clean up. I feel like we are moving in the right direction as we enter into the final month of the season."

Makayla Everette led the Hurricanes in scoring with 17 points. She also collected 6 offensive rebounds. Mikirea Shippy added 16 points on 7-11 from the floor. Miracle Cornell had 10.

"The crowd was a positive force for us tonight," Rasnake added. "We have a lot of home games remaining on the schedule, and we hope our fans continue to come out and support our athletes."

Next week women's basketball plays at home 3 times: February 7 against Central Carolina, February 9 against Catawba Valley, and February 12 against Cape Fear.
