Women's Basketball loses in Semifinal

Louisburg College women's basketball faced off against region foe Catawba Valley Community College one last time in the Region X semifinal on Thursday.

Catawba Valley took an early 14-13 lead, but Louisburg was up 30-26 at halftime. The Hurricanes lost the 3rd quarter by 9. In the 4th quarter they had good enough possessions to win the game but ended up coming up short. Catawba Valley won 73-67.

"This was another hard fought battle between us and Catawba Valley," said Louisburg coach Jason Rasnake. "I couldn't be more proud of our team tonight. They stepped up and made plays when we needed them. Just a few errors down the stretch were the difference tonight,"

Makayla Everette had 16 points and 9 rebounds for the Hurricanes. Jainaya Jones had 13 on a bad shooting night, while she was able to add 8 assists and 5 steals. Destini Abramson-Lee also finished in double-digits with 11.

The Hurricanes were 23-77 from the floor (30%) and made 5 3-point baskets on the night. Their 15 offensive rebounds kept them in the game.

Coach Jason Rasnake recapped the season, "We just competed in the semifinals of our region tournament in a season that 6 months ago we were not sure would even happen. I thought the NJCAA and Region X did an outstanding job navigating all the unknowns of the pandemic. Louisburg College and it's athletic department went above and beyond to keep our student-athletes safe and competing. I can't say enough about my players and my assistant coach Courtney Brewer and how they handled everything that was thrown at them this season."

Women's Basketball wrapped up the short season with a 13-6 record after finishing tied for second place in Region X play.
