USC-Salk defeat women with big 4th quarter

Louisburg College women's basketball travelled to Walterboro, SC on Saturday to face USC-Salkehatchie for the second time this year. In the first match up Louisburg lost by 6.

This weekend the Hurricanes got behind early, but by the end of the 3rd quarter they took the lead 49-48.

"I'm proud of the fight our kids showed today. We were down early and battled back to take the lead in the third [quarter]. At the end of the day, we gave up too many offensive rebounds and their shooters got hot in the fourth [quarter]," said Coach Jason Rasnake. "We still have a lot of season left to fix these mistakes and hopefully we get to see them one more time in the region tournament."

USC-Salkehatchie outscored Louisburg 32-10 in the 4th quarter to propel them to the 80-59 victory. USC-Salkehatchie tallied 11 made 3-pointers, while Louisburg shot 28% from the floor, including 8% from the 3-point line and 58% from the free throw line.

Aniylah Bryant led Louisburg with 16 points. Destini Abramson-Lee recorded a double-double, with 12 points and 12 rebounds--including 8 offensive rebounds. Mashya Scott also finished in double figures with 11. Emily Barr had 9--most coming from the free throw line. Makayla Everette was able to gather 10 rebounds, but only added 4 points.

The loss takes Louisburg to a 6-3 record. The Hurricanes take the floor again on Wednesday at home against Bryant & Stratton College at 5 pm.
