Women's Basketball comes up short

It had been 322 days since Louisburg women's basketball took the floor in a regular contest when the Hurricanes opened up with Spartanburg Methodist College on Saturday in a rematch from last year's 109-106 overtime thriller. This time the game also ended in a Spartanburg Methodist victory of the same margin. Louisburg lost the first quarter by three, and though the Hurricanes made a push in the last ten minutes that 3-point margin is how the game ended.

The Hurricanes were 9-22 from 3-point land, while Spartanburg Methodist countered with 12 3's of their own to take the victory 95-92. Spartanburg Methodist outscored Louisburg 19-11 from the free throw line.

In the loss, sophomore Aniylah Bryant lead Louisburg with 23 points including 4 3-point field goals. Makayla Everette recorded 20 points on 9-15 from the floor including 15 rebounds. Charmille Browne and Destini Abramson-Lee added 12 and 11 respectfully. Freshman Kadajah Walker lead the team with an incredible 9 assists in her first game as a Hurricane.

According to Coach Jason Rasnake, "If you score 92 points you're supposed to win. We had defensive lapses that we will be correcting moving forward, but we fought down the stretch."

The Hurricanes continue their 2020-21 campaign on January 30 in Roger Taylor Arena at 1 pm due to a postponement with Fayetteville Tech.
