Women's Basketball Celebrates Sophomores

Thursday in the Roger Taylor Athletic Center began with a celebration of 8 women's basketball sophomore's and their accomplishments during their time at Louisburg College. Following the pre-game festivities, the Hurricanes took on Region X rival Wake Technical CC in front of a packed arena.

The opening minutes saw both teams struggling to score. Early pressure from Louisburg caused Wake Tech to turn the ball over but the Hurricanes failed to convert the extra possessions into points. Once both teams settled in, the game became a shootout with a total of 24 combined made three pointers in the game--one of which came from the Eagle's Lauren Cates at the buzzer to send the Hurricanes into halftime down 43-31.

Wake Tech pushed the lead to 25 in the third quarter. The Hurricanes cut the lead to 6 with a three pointer by Caleah Smith with 6:39 left to play in the game, but the Eagles then went on an 18-10 run to pull out the 87-73 victory.

The result of this game puts the Hurricanes in fourth place in the upcoming Region X Tournament in Martinsville, Virginia. In the first round, Louisburg College will take on Bryant & Stratton CC on Thursday, March 5th at 2pm.  Tournament info can be found at https://regionx. prestosports.com/sports/wbkb/ 2019-20/diitournament
