5 Hurricanes in double-figures

In their final road game of the regular season, Louisburg College women's basketball picked up a 96-91 victory over Bryant & Stratton. In another high scoring affair the Hurricanes (15-7, 8-6) saw five players in double-figures led by freshman point guard Jainaya Jones (23).

Louisburg found themselves down after the first quarter 24-16. However, they were able to storm back in the second half behind a barrage of three pointers. The Hurricanes connected on 7 baskets from beyond the arc in the quarter to take a 50-41 halftime lead. Caleah Smith and Aniylah Bryant had 3 each.

At the start of the second half Bryant & Stratton extended their defensive pressure, but the Hurricanes were able to find shooters and poured in another 6 threes before the final horn.  Late foul trouble by the Bobcats kept Louisburg on the foul line. Starasia Bell-Freeman made 5 of 6 free throws in the fourth quarter to keep the home team from making a late run.

"It's always hard to get off the bus and get going early," said Louisburg coach Jason Rasnake. "We fought through some poor shooting and once we saw a couple [baskets] go in we were able to settle down and find open shooters. I love seeing this many players in double figures.  The more people we have contributing the harder we are to stop."

The women's basketball team take on Wake Technical Community College in the final regular season game of the 2019-2020 season in Roger Taylor Arena this Thursday at 5:30 pm.
