Hurricane Softball Opens 2023 at Number 11

The Louisburg College Softball team will start the season ranked in the national poll yet again for the 2023 season.  The Hurricanes will open the season as the 11th-ranked team in the country despite losing seven starting position players - including five All-Americans - to graduation.

Redshirt Sophomore, and two-time All-American, Brianna Tucker returns for a third season to lead the way for the No. 11 Hurricanes.  She is joined by fellow sophomores Riley Lingerfelt, Emilee Prince, Dessa Houston and Carly Hannah.

The five returning players are surrounded by a talented crop of freshmen including pitcher Zoey Jones (Smithfield, NC/Cleveland HS) and utility player Kennedy Byrd (Benson, NC/South Johnston HS).  The Region X and South Atlantic District Champions are coming off a 47-5 campaign in 2022 that saw a 45 game win streak and a trip to the NJCAA National Championship in Oxford, AL.

Eric Lee returns for a 6th season at the helm of the Louisburg program - boasting a career record of 178-35 in his tenure as the Hurricane head coach.  Lee has a new coaching staff for the 2023 campaign adding Ava Jay (Coker '22) to coach the outfielders and slappers and two-time Hurricane All-American Haleigh Joyner to coach the infielders and hitters.  Lee will shift his focus in 2023 to the circle, where he will guide the Louisburg pitching staff.

No. 11 Louisburg opens the season at home on February 11th when they will face off with Region X Division I favorite Florence-Darlington at 1 p.m. for a double header.
