Hurricanes Softball has 4 named NFCA All-America

Four student-athletes from Louisburg College have garnered 2022 NFCA All-American recognition. The 47-5 Hurricanes tied with national champion Phoenix College and Jones College for the most players recognized. Carrigan Ewers, Abbie Yarboro, Brianna Tucker, and Foster Sharpe were among those to be honored.

Through the end of regular season play, Carrigan Ewers went 19-2 in the circle. She pitched 126.1 innings and is 7th in the country with a 1.16 ERA. Ewers had 162 strikeouts. Opponents hit .177 against her.

"Carrigan Ewers natural talent is unmatched," said Louisburg Coach Eric Lee. "She is intrinsically motivated to be the best in a way that I have never seen. She has developed so much over the last two years, and I'm glad to see that coaches are rewarding her excellence."

Ewers responded, "To be named All-American is a huge honor. I was blessed to play for Coach Lee with a team that I can call family. I want to thank my family, and most importantly I want to thank God for blessing me with my talent and ability to play softball."

Foster Sharpe hit .443 with a .507 on base percentage. She collected 54 hits including 5 doubles, 2 triples, and 2 homeruns. Sharpe drove in 32 runs, scored 38 runs, and stole 24 bases.

"Foster had the best season of her three year career," said Coach Lee. "She deserves every accolade that comes her way. She has the best hands in junior college softball, is a polished slapper, and has developed a power element to her offensive game. I'm forever indebted to Foster because she believed in me and my program when she had little reason to do so."

According to Sharpe, "Being named All-American by the coaches of the NJCAA is everything to me. I'm so grateful that I had the opportunity to play for Coach Lee with amazing teammates by my side. I couldn't have done it without them."

Abbie Yarboro hit .426 with 66 hits including 15 doubles, and 3 triples. Her 19 home runs rank 4th in the country. Yarboro also had 70 RBI (8th in the country), 62 runs scored, and 25 stolen bases.

"Abbie had a remarkable season in an impossible role. Everybody in the country knew who was hitting in front of her and she had to be equally as impressive to make our lineup tick," remarked Coach Lee. "She is one of those special players who you only coach every so often."

"When Coach Lee recruited me out of high school I had big dreams for myself and our team, but not once did I think I would end up playing in an infield where three us were voted All-Americans," said Yarboro. "I'm grateful to have had Coach Lee and teammates to push me; and I want to thank my family for all the support."

Lastly, Brianna Tucker had a .488 batting average with 65 total hits including 18 doubles, and 5 triples. She is 3rd in the country in homeruns with 23. Tucker also had 69 RBI (9th in the country) and 79 runs scored. Tucker also collected 27 stolen bases.

"Bri Tucker is the most humble player I have ever coached," recounted Coach Lee. "She quietly goes about her business every single day and never wants the credit, just the win. She is a special talent that possesses all five tools and I look forward to watching her success in the ACC."

Tucker commented, "Being an All-American means the world to me. Playing softball for Louisburg College and Coach Lee the past two years has been a wonderful experience for me and I'll never forget my Louisburg family."

The four All-American selections tied the 2019 team's record when Haleigh Joyner, Mary Anna Clement, Sarah Hilton, and Mason Hedgecock played for the Hurricanes.

Louisburg College softball will look to maintain their post at the top of Region X amongst the nation's elite in 2023 with a new look roster.
