6 Softball Players Named NFCA All-Region

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has announced that 79 student-athletes from 37 programs have received 2022 NFCA NJCAA DII All-Region accolades. Louisburg College out of the East Region led the way with six All-Region selections and five on the first team. The NFCA east region encompasses NJCAA regions 10, 12, 15, 16, 19, and 20. The NFCA awards are given based on regular season stats only.

Carrigan Ewers and Ellen Palya were both named first team All-East Region pitchers. Foster Sharpe, Abbie Yarboro, and Brianna Tucker were each named to the first team as well at second base, third base, and short stop respectively. Ansley Lee rounded out the list of Hurricanes on the All-East Region roster picking up a second team nod at designated player.

Through the end of regular season play, Carrigan Ewers went 19-2 in the circle. She pitched 126.1 innings and is 7th in the country with a 1.16 ERA. Ewers had 162 strikeouts. Opponents hit .177 against her.

"Carrigan Ewers natural talent is unmatched," said Louisburg Coach Eric Lee. "She is intrinsically motivated to be the best in a way that I have never seen. She has developed so much over the last two years, and I'm glad to see that coaches across the eastern US are rewarding her excellence."

Ellen Palya was 18-1 in the circle in the regular season. She pitched 99.1 innings and is 5th in the country with a 1.07 ERA. She had 166 strikeouts which ranks 4th in the country in strikeouts per seven innings pitched. Opponents hit .117 against her.

Coach Lee commented, "Big time players make big time plays in big time moments. While this is an award based on regular season numbers, it cannot be overstated how great Ellen is in the postseason. She puts up bigger numbers in less innings than most pitchers in the country."

Foster Sharpe hit .443 with a .507 on base percentage. She collected 54 hits including 5 doubles, 2 triples, and 2 homeruns. Sharpe drove in 32 runs, scored 38 runs, and stole 24 bases.

"Foster had the best season of her three year career," said Coach Lee. "She deserves every accolade that comes her way. She has the best hands in junior college softball, is a polished slapper, and has developed a power element to her offensive game. I'm forever indebted to Foster because she believed in me and my program when she had little reason to do so."

Abbie Yarboro hit .426 with 66 hits including 15 doubles, and 3 triples. Her 19 home runs rank 4th in the country. Yarboro also had 70 RBI (8th in the country), 62 runs scored, and 25 stolen bases.

"Abbie had a remarkable season in an impossible role. Everybody in the country knew who was hitting in front of her and she had to be equally as impressive to make our lineup tick," remarked Coach Lee. "She is one of those special players who you only coach every so often."

Brianna Tucker had a .488 batting average with 65 total hits including 18 doubles, and 5 triples. She is 3rd in the country in homeruns with 23. Tucker also had 69 RBI (9th in the country) and 79 runs scored. Tucker also collected 27 stolen bases.

"Bri Tucker is the most humble player I have ever coached," recounted Coach Lee. "She quietly goes about her business every single day and never wants the credit, just the win. She is a special talent that possesses all five tools and I look forward to watching her success in the ACC."

Ansley Lee was a .400 hitter with 44 hits including 9 doubles, 1 triple, 11 home runs. She had 38 RBI, and 37 runs scored.

"Ansley came to us this fall and found an injection of energy and excitement for the game that she hadn't experienced in some time," said Coach Lee. "I'm extremely proud of the season that she had and the growth that I saw in her–not just as a player, but as a teammate."

The vote makes all six Louisburg student-athletes eligible for selection to the 2022 NFCA NJCAA DII All-America squads.
