Softball wins 35 in a row

Louisburg College softball has 35 wins in a row and is currently ranked 3rd in the nation in the latest national poll. They are 24-0 in league play.

"Our pitching staff has been nothing short of elite, said Coach Eric Lee. "The combination of Ewers/Lingerfelt and Palya/Prince has yielded unprecedented results for our program by taking all the pressure off our offense."

Carrigan Ewers is 15-2 with 7 complete games. She has struck out 149 batters in 107.2 innings pitched. Ellen Palya is 14-1 with 5 complete games, including a perfect game. She has struck out 128 batters in 73.1 innings pitched. The Hurricanes are 2nd in the country with 15 shutouts.

Ewers, Palya, Lingerfelt, and Prince all have a sub .200 ERA respectively. The team ERA is 1.74, and the Hurricanes currently rank 1st in the country with .175 batting average against.

Offensively, Louisburg is also ranked in the top 10 in the country. They are 3rd in the country with 142 stolen bases, 6th in home runs with 66, and 7th with a .660 slugging percentage.

According to Coach Lee, "The combination of Brianna Tucker, Abbie Yarboro, and Ansley Lee at the top of our order along with their 38 home runs, 133 runs batted in, and 140 runs scored has been the catalyst for a year that has been as good as any offensively since I have been here."

Tucker has a 1.025 slugging percentage and Yarboro's slugging percentage is .903.

Four Hurricanes have over a .400 batting average including: Foster Sharpe (.452), Abbie Yarboro (.435), Brianna Tucker (.432), and Ansley Lee (.424).

Three Hurricanes have 10 or more home runs: Brianna Tucker (17), Abbie Yarboro (13), and Lark Collins (10).

The Hurricanes have clinched the Region X Division II regular season. "While its nice to clinch a regular season title that has never been one of our stated goals this year," commented Coach Lee. "The next two weeks are critical in our preparation to go after the big prizes that we have talked about all year long."

Softball will take the field again Sunday against Southwest Virginia at 2:00.
