Hurricanes walk off in weekend double header

Louisburg College softball competed in a double header at home this past Saturday. The Hurricanes defeated Surry Community College in both contests.

In game one Louisburg won 10-3. Carrigan Ewers was the starting pitcher. She went 4 innings, striking out 6. Riley Lingerfelt closed the game with 3 innings of one-hit relief and 4 strikeouts.

Brooklyn Rush homered and doubled in the game. Ansley Lee went 2-3 with a home run. Abbie Yarboro and Chelsea Roberson each added a pair of doubles.

"I was proud of the way that we started Saturday, setting the tone early," said Louisburg coach Eric Lee. "Game two we kicked it around, giving Surry a chance late. We credit them for continuing to compete, but game two was frustrating to watch as a coach."

The second game Louisburg won 5-4. Starting pitcher Ellen Palya was fighting illness and only able to go 3 innings before she had to be lifted. Caroline White came in for 4 innings of relief and picked up the win.

Bri Tucker was 3-4 with three home runs including a walk off in the 7th. Lark Collins also homered.

The Hurricanes will retain home field advantage this Tuesday against Patrick & Henry Community College. First pitch of the double header is slated for 5 pm.
