Hurricane pitching dominates in Myrtle Beach

Louisburg College softball traveled to Myrtle Beach on Monday to take on Joliet Junior College and Herkimer College. The Hurricanes won both games.

In game one, Loiusburg defeated Joliet 8-0.

Carrigan Ewers pitched a five inning complete game no hitter. She had 8 strikeouts.

Abbie Yarboro was 2-3 in the game with a home run. 6 other hurricanes had hits: Ansley Lee, Lark Collins, Brooklyn, Foster Sharpe, Amber McLaren, and Daly Keel.

"I'm proud of our kids for staying focused and kicking off spring break with a win," said Louisburg head coach Eric Lee. "It was good to see Carrigan [Ewers] come out and overmatch an opponent on a day that she wasn't throwing with her greatest velocity."

In game two the Hurricanes defeated Herkimer College 12-2.

Ellen Palya struck out the first nine batters she saw against a good Herkimer lineup, while

Louisburg jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd on five singles (Collins, Rush, Sharpe, McLaren, Caroline White) and two walks (Chelsea Roberson, Brianna Tucker).

In the top of the 4th Herkimer got the game to within one after the lead off batter reached on an error and a triple over the center fielder's head scored the first run. Palya struck out the next batter and the second unearned run of the inning scored on a squeeze play.

Herkimer pitching struggled to find the strike zone in the bottom of the 4th inning, eventually loading the bases. The game was broken open on a Ramsey Schlafer bases clearing double.

Every Hurricane who logged a plate appearance reached base at least once in the game.

Palya went 4 innings in the circle giving up 0 earned runs, 1 hit, and 10 strikeouts. Caroline came in the 5th inning to finish the game striking out two along the way.

Coach Lee commented, "I'm extremely proud of our pitching staff for dominating the day by getting 20 of 30 outs via strikeout. Our offense did a great job of being patient and getting some timely hits to put some crooked numbers on the scoreboard."

The Hurricanes will be back in Myrtle Beach Thursday for two more games.
