Softball wins in extra innings

Louisburg College softball traveled to Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute on Tuesday for a double header. The Hurricanes won the first game in thriller fashion, but game two was postponed due to rain.

Louisburg never led until the 10th inning, but found a way to come out on top.

"I am extremely proud of the leadership in our locker room–especially Abbie Yarboro–for refusing to get beat on a day we deserved to lose," said Louisburg Coach Eric Lee. "We used 18 players to win a softball game, and it took all 18 doing their part to get it done."

Caldwell took an early lead, but Abbie Yarboro hit a 280 foot shot in the third to tie the game at 1. Then in the bottom of the 7th, trailing 4-1 with 2 strikes and 2 outs, Yarboro hit her second home run of the day to tie the game at 4. In the top of the 10th, Yarboro drew a leadoff walk after running the count full, stole 2nd base, and reached third on a sac fly from Lark Collins. Ansley Lee had a game winning single to plate Yarboro.

In the bottom of the 10th Riley Lingerfelt struck the first two and ended the game on a 5-3 put out. Lingerfelt picked up the win in 3 innings of relief pitching giving up only 1 hit and 6 strike outs. Carrigan Ewers started the game in the circle going 7 innings. She gave up 2 earned runs on 4 hits with 10 strike outs.

Softball will take the field Thursday to host Kalamazoo Valley at 4 and 6 pm.
