Softball Sweeps Pair on the Road

Louisburg College softball traveled to Myrtle Beach on Monday to face off against two quality programs. The Hurricanes came out with two wins. In the first game they defeated Schoolcraft College 12-0 in five innings. In the second game they defeated Danville Area Community College 5-4.

Against Schoolcraft the Hurricanes had only 7 hits, but every baserunner that reached scored. Schoolcraft pitchers gave up 4 walks and 1 hit by pitch.

Ramsey Schlafer was 1-1 with a walk. Scoring two runs. Her hit was a 270 foot two run home run. Ansley Lee, Chelsea Roberson, and Lark Collins each also scored two runs; while Bri Tucker and Amber McLaren drove in a pair of runs each.

The winning pitcher was Ellen Palya. She got the win, giving up one hit and striking out 7 of the 10 batters she faced. Caroline White threw 2 innings of relief with 3 strike outs.

"I'm proud of our team for bouncing back after awful events traveling last week," said Louisburg Coach Eric Lee. "They came out and played Louisburg softball with a lot of energy and focus."

Against Danville Area Community College the Hurricanes collected 12 hits. Lark Collins was 3-3 with a double to lead off the top of the 7th inning. She eventually scored the winning run on a base hit from Chelsea Roberson.

Foster Sharpe, Caroline White, and Ramsey Schlafer all had multi-hit performances.

Riley Lingerfelt threw 4.1 innings of one-hit relief to get the win for the Hurricanes. She struck out 7 batters while walking none.

"We were down 4-1 after three [innings] and I told our team that I felt like they wanted it more than us. The team immediately responded to tie the game in the top of the 4th," said Coach Lee. "Once again we found a way to win a softball game that we didn't play our best and great teams find ways to win on off days."

The Hurricanes will take the field again Thursday in their first region match up. Pitt Community College will come to Sheilah Cotten Field for a 4:00 first pitch. Last year the Hurricanes swept the series with Pitt winning 7-1, 11-8, 14-1, 9-0.
