The Louisburg Softball team travelled to Springwood Park in Burlington, NC last weekend. They went 3-0 on the road to a Region X tournament championship.
In Game 1, the Hurricanes defeated Patrick Henry Community College 5-0.
Scoring started with 3 Hurricane runs in the bottom of the 3rd on hits from Abbie Yarboro, Caroline White, and Amber McLaren. After a walk and an infield hit the bases were loaded and the Hurricanes scored the third run of the inning on an error.
In the next half inning, with nobody out Patrick Henry loaded the bases but Ellen Palya came back to strike out the side.
The Hurricanes put it away in the fifth with 2 hits and a double steal from Brianna Tucker and Jordyn Scott to add 2, representing the final margin of victory.
Palya went 5 innings in the circle. She struck out 10 and walked 1.
In Game 2 Louisburg took on Pasco-Hernando State College. The Hurricanes won 6-1, scoring 3 in the 1st and 3 in the 6th. Amber McLaren and Foster Sharpe had 2 RBI, while Caroline White had 1.
Carrigan Ewers got her 13th win of the season with 5 innings pitched. The run given up was unearned. Ewers struck out 7 and walked 4. Haley Tomlinson came on for a 2 inning save.
In the final game of the tournament Louisburg again defeated Pasco-Hernando State College. This time the final score was 9-4.
The Hurricanes started off with a Brianna Tucker homerun and never looked back. They scored 3 more in the 1st inning on RBI singles from Caroline White, Foster Sharpe, and Lark Collins.
In the 2nd inning Caroline White fouled out on a sacrifice fly to left field. Then Jordyn Scott collected an RBI on a single to left field. Jessica Russell went on to homer in the 3rd.
In the top of the 4th and 7th Pasco-Hernando scored 2, but it was too little too late as the Hurricanes continued to add to their lead with RBI from Amber McLaren and Lark Collins.
Ina Womack started and went 4 innings, giving up one hit and striking out 5. Ellen Palya, Haley Tomlinson, and Carrigan Ewers all made appearances giving up a total of 3 hits.
Louisburg College softball once again is Region X champion, for the third year in a row. To this point the Hurricanes are 39-6; 19-0 in Region X play. Eying a national championship the Hurricanes march on to Oxford, Alabama.
