Softball dominates the weekend 63-6

Louisburg College dominated the weekend outscoring opponents 63-6 in four games. The Hurricanes swept Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute and Camp Community College while honoring their sophomores at Sheilah R. Cotten Field. In 4 games the Hurricanes had 62 hits, with a .544 batting average, and 14 home runs. Every player on the Louisburg roster got a hit over the weekend.

In game 1 on Saturday Louisburg faced off against a Caldwell team who was receiving votes nationally. The Hurricanes broke it open with an 11 run second inning to win 16-2. They scored 16 runs on 14 hits in 28 at bats with 15 runs batted in and only struck out once. Brianna Tucker went 4-4 with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored. Abbie Yarboro and Lark Collins both hit home runs. Mackenzie Silvia went 3 ⅓ innings and gave up 2 hits. Ellen Palya held Calwell scoreless in 1 ⅔ innings of work.

In game 2 Louisburg defeated Caldwell 14-2. The Hurricanes started off with a 6 run 1st inning and never looked back. They had 12 hits in 23 at bats, walked 6 times, and only struck out twice. Abbie Yarboro went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI; while Haleigh Joyner, Amber McLaren, and Lark Collins all hit home runs. Haley Tomlinson started and went 3 innings. She gave up 2 hits and 1 ER while recording 3 strikeouts. Ina Womack and Carrigan Ewers both pitched 1 inning of shut out respectively.

"The emotion of sophomore day can sometimes create distractions, but I thought our team handled it well and put on an offensive clinic against one of the top teams in the region," said Louisburg coach Eric Lee.

Sunday's games against Camp Community College began with a 21-2 victory for Louisburg.

The Hurricanes had 23 hits in 34 at bats, no strike outs, and 6 walks. Brianna Tucker went 4-5 and scored 3 runs. McKenna Glascock blasted her first collegiate home run to the opposite field off the scoreboard. Jessica Russell added 2 home runs and Caroline White had 1. In the circle, Carrigan Ewers started and went 4 innings. She gave up 2 hits, 1 earned run while striking out 4.

In the final game of the weekend Louisburg shut out Camp Community College 12-0. The Hurricanes were 13 for 29 at the plate beginning with back to back home runs to start the game from Brianna Tucker and Abbie Yarboro. Jordyn Scott went 3-3 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Ellen Palya was the winning pitcher in 3 innings of work. She did not allow a hit and struck out 6. Ina Womack struck out the side in the 5th to close out the weekend.

"We're not that good, but we're getting there," said Coach Lee. "We need to clean a few things up to play at our full potential, but it's always fun to hit home runs and score a lot of runs."

The wins move Louisburg to 29-6 on the season. The Hurricanes take on Pitt Community College April 23 at home. First pitch is at 5 pm.
