Softball has a 23-run weekend

Louisburg College softball was scheduled to play Florence-Darlington Technical College on Friday, but it was cancelled due to inclement weather. Saturday the team was able to take the field for two games against Caldwell Community College.

In the first game the Hurricanes came out hot scoring 4 in the first inning on the way to a 10-2 victory. Louisburg starting pitcher Ina Womack gave up 1 hit in 3.2 innings and Haley Tomlinson came on to finish the game. The Hurricanes had 11 hits including 2 homeruns by Mallory Brooks and Haleigh Joyner. Joyner also hit a double and a triple, and was a single away from the cycle in her 3 RBI game.

In the second game the Hurricanes finished in like fashion winning 13-5. Haleigh Joyner picked up her missing single from game one, going 3-3 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs. The Hurricanes scored in every inning. Other RBIs for Louisburg included: Sammi-Jo Loney (3), Mallory Brooks (2), Amber McLaren (2), Jai Deese (1), and Kaitlin Brunelli (1). The winning pitcher for the Hurricanes was Mackenzie Silvia. She went 3.1 and Womack came in to finish the weekend.

"I'm really proud of the fact that our players have been able to step into different roles and compete. They have found ways to win though all the injury issues we're dealing with right now," said Louisburg coach Eric Lee.

Louisburg (7-1) will take the field again on Friday at home against Paul D. Camp Community College at 4:00 pm to start the 4 game weekend. On Saturday the Hurricanes will be at Bryant & Stratton College.
