Softball Rolls Into Championship Sunday With Pair of Wins

SUMTER, SC - The Louisburg College Softball team is headed to Championship Sunday for the second time in as many years with their pair of victories on the first two days of the Region X Softball Tournament.  The Hurricanes beat USC Salkehatchie 8-0 (5 innings) on Friday before topping Spartanburg Methodist on Saturday afternoon by a 3-1 margin.

Mary Anna Clement went the distance in both games to get the wins going 12 innings while striking out 10 and issuing only 3 walks.  The freshman from Oxford, NC only allowed five total hits in the two outings.  At the plate, Sara Siwinski, a sophomore from Tampa, FL, went an unblemished 6-for-6 with a pair of doubles, her third home run of the season and 5 RBI.

The Canes will now face Spartanburg Methodist on Sunday at noon in the Region X Championship Game following the Pioneers' victory over USC Salkehatchie on Saturday evening in an elimination game.  Spartanburg Methodist will need a win at noon to force an If Necessary game at 2:30pm.  The Hurricanes need just one win on Sunday to repeat as Region X Tournament Champions.
