Canes Take Two From Richard Bland

Led by stellar efforts in the circle from Savannah Jackson and Haley Hutchins, the Hurricanes took both games from Richard Bland College in five innings in the mid-week non-conference doubleheader.

In game one, Louisburg (19-5) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first and would go on to score 10 runs before Richard Bland answered back with 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th. The Canes, who are currently ranked first in the nation offensively, berated the Statesmen with a 15-hit attack. Six Hurricane players had multi-hit performances. Freshman Monica Pepe was 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored, 2 RBI, and a walk. Sophomore Kortney Thomas was 3 for 3 with 3 RBI, and freshman Sara Siwiniski was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI and her first collegiate homerun over the left field fence. As a team, Louisburg swiped five bags which moves the team total to 93 stolen bases this season. With her complete game, 3-hit effort, freshman Savannah "PJ" Jackson earned her 6th win this season. Jackson gave up 2 earned runs, 2 walks, and recorded 2 strikeouts.

Sophomore Haley Hutchins led the Hurricanes in game two, both in the circle and at the plate. Hutchins earned her 9th win throwing a complete game, striking out four, giving up 6 hits, 3 earned runs, and 2 walks. The Canes tallied 14 hits in the second game, and scored in 4 of the 5 innings. At the plate, Hutchins was 3 for 3 with 4 RBI, 3 runs scored, and a walk. Kortney Thomas also tallied three hits in the nightcap, going 3 for 4, also with 4 RBI.  Sara Siwinski stayed hot for game two, going 2 for 3 with a double, driving in 3 runs, and drawing a walk. Sophomore Taylor Subacius was 2 for 4 with a double, while driving a run in for LC.

Louisburg will head south this weekend to take on their first conference opponent USC-Sumter in a four-game series.
