XC 8th at ECU Invitational

XC 8th at ECU Invitational

Friday, October 15th a shorthanded Hurricanes squad took on NCAA Schools at the ECU Invitational at Lake Kristi, NC. Louisburg finished 8th of out 12 teams topping UNC-Wilmington by 1 point.

Sophomore Matthew Bauer hung tough in the early stages of the race, knocking on the door of Top 25 halfway through. Once Bauer began falling off pace, fellow Sophomore Kyle McDermott came to the rescue. Once McDermott caught Bauer, the two worked together the last mile of the race. They finished 33rd and 34th respectively, while finishing that last mile strong in less than 5:15.

Freshman Brian Marquis Jr., came up big with his first ever "Sub 30" performance in 29:56. Tiwan Woodard, Sean Johnson, Kelvin Hill and Tanner Oulllette all rounded out the day with big PR's as well.

"Today was a big deal for us," said new Louisburg coach Chandler Caldwell. "This was our largest race of the season to this point, and all of our guys hung in there. The course was fast which led to many new personal bests. I loved the way our top two guys regrouped late in the race and pushed each other to the finish line. The team's development is really starting to show, and we will get a couple of key contributors back for Regionals so we are definitely on the up and up."
