Cross Country opens season at Montreat

Cross Country opens season at Montreat

COVID-19 has led to delays in most sports, with the exception of Cross County. The Louisburg College men competed for the first time, this past Friday.

The top two spots went to Milligan College and host, Montreat College, two very solid NAIA teams. The Hurricanes finished 3rd and region opponent, Spartanburg Methodist College, finished 5th.

"We have had a strong preseason developing a young group of runners who want to be very successful," according to new head coach, Cameron Ruppe. "We have a young roster with 4 out of our top 5 being freshman. They have started the season out on the right foot and are on path to help us be a very competitive team. Sophomore, Dexter Hill, has done a great job leading the group and helping them adjust to longer races/faster paces."

Hill finished 10th Friday, and Seth Sharpe finished 14th. See full results here: https://www.tfrrs.org/results/xc/16905/Montreat_XC_Kickoff

Ruppe commented, "I was very impressed with the whole team stepping up and competing. Specifically, John Gormley had a great day and is making impressive progress each week."

The quality of the miles being run in training is the most important thing for Ruppe as training continues towards November.

The Hurricanes run again on October 3rd on the campus of Columbia College for the Koala XC Classic. The race begins at 9:00 am.
