Track Breaks School Records

Track Breaks School Records

On Saturday afternoon Louisburg College men's and women's track competed at the 5th Annual Adidas Trojan Challenge at the University of Mount Olive.

Freshman Kam Tuttle got the Canes off to a hot start in the Long Jump with a jump of 6.93m. This was the 4th best jump in school history. She was placed 1st in the event.

Sophomore distance runner Matthew Bauer had a big day running a 1:57.31 (3rd place) 800m and a 4:00.41 (2nd place). His 800m was 10th fastest in school history, and his 1500m time was good enough to punch his ticket to the NJCAA Outdoor Track National Championship.

Fellow Sophomore distance runner John Gormley narrowly missed the 5K national qualifying time with his 15:27.98. He was 8th place overall.

Sophomore Khamari Arrington finished 5th in the discus with a throw of 44.29m. This is a new Louisburg College record.

Freshman Keasean Dirks ran a 10.74 and set a school record in the 100m during the semi-finals. He finished 3rd in the final.

Sophomore Sidney Littlejohn punched his ticket to the Outdoor National Championship in the 110m Hurdles with his time of 14.53. This was good enough for 1st place.

Sophomore Laterrion Johnson re-broke his own school record in the triple jump with a jump of 14.06m.

"This weekend was a big step in the right direction. To be breaking so many school records, qualifying this many athletes for Nationals and finishing in the top 3 in so many events against NCAA D1 and D2 teams this early is tremendous for our program!" said Louisburg coach Chandler Caldwell. "We still have a long way to go with just two meets remaining. We have a lot of team and individual goals that have yet to be met. I'm excited for these next few weeks of no competitions to get back into some really good training sessions so that we come back even better for the Aggie Classic April 22-23."
