Track fares well at Liberty University

On Saturday, February 5th the Louisburg men and women's track teams traveled up to Liberty University's state of the art Indoor Track Complex.

Once again the sprinters and throwers got the Hurricanes started out on the right note. Sophomore Khmarri Arrington finished 4th in the Shot Put with a throw of 13.69m. Ahkeem Paige (7.16), Stephen McBeth (7.20), Siheed Hargrove (7.30), and Caysey Colant (7.65) all had their best times of the season.

Sophomore Matthew Bauer kept the good energy rolling by punching his ticket to Indoor Nationals by running a 4:19.12 mile. Sidney Lottlejohn, the team's All-American Hurdler had his season's best time of 8.29 in the 60m Hurdles. Laterrion Johnson finished 5th in the Long Jump and 10th in the Triple Jump. His day ended early after an ankle injury. Sophomore John Gormley achieved a 5 second PR in the 5K, running a 15:52.

On the ladies side of things, Pleasure Mitchell and twin sisters, Carmen and Cameron Lynch, made their college debuts running in the 60m dash and 200m dash.

"All in all, today was a step in the right direction," said Coach Chandler Caldwell. "We had a lot of athletes get back to campus late due to COVID issues, so we are behind in our training plan, but the talent and speed is still there with this team. We just need more time to get more fit and get stronger. PR's and another Nationals ticket punched make for a good day, but the great ones are coming."

Track will compete again on February 11 in the Kenneth Giles Invitational at Norfolk State University.
