Canes Continue Success at Vince Brown Invitational 

After a solid meet last Sunday at the Mondo Invitational the Louisburg Hurricanes attempted to repeat that success at the Vince Brown invitational on Sunday at Christopher Newport University. They did not disappoint.

On the Men's side the day began with the Jumps with both the High and Long opening the competition of a very successful day. In the High Jump Malcolm Wade was able to increase his PR to 1.83 meters putting him 32ndin the nation in that event and placing 5thon the day.  The long jumpers had strong performances from everyone involved including the debuts of Jakari Long, and Trevon Robinson who both jumped over 6 Meters while Kendrick Lewis overcame some early struggles to place third in the event. 

The throwers had a solid day as well with Jamison Kyles making the final, finishing 9th.

The running side continued the success as there were a multitude of top 10 finishes along with school records and PR's. Aveon Reid began the meet with a stellar performance tying his Personal Best of 8.09 in the 60 Meter Hurdles. The clocking matches his time from the NJCAA championships of last season and places him 9thin the nation. In the 60 Meter Dash the Canes put 2 individuals in the top 8 with Tyler Burns, and Jakari Long both having stellar performances. Long had a stellar race tying the school record a mark that he now shares with Burns at a time of 7.04 seconds. 

The afternoon session was much of the same as the Canes places 2 in the top 10 of the 200 (Long, Roninson), 3 in the top 10 of the 400 (Long 3rd, Robinson 6th and Brichon Shepherd 10th), and had a top 10 performances in the 3000 Meter (Dennis Mcchesky 9th) as well as the 800 Meter races (Dexter hill 4th). The Canes concluded the day with their second consecutive 4X400 Meter title with the team of Kendrick Lewis, Trevon Robinson, Naseem Alston, and Aveon Reid toying with he competition enroute to a 4 second victory. 

Not to be outdone the ladies also had a very successful event. Ashley Pearce began a very busy day with a PR in the long jump and went on to run the school record in the 60 Meter Dash with a time of 8.01 seconds, along with a 9thplace showing in the 200 Meter Race. Domonique Branch and Bethany Blackwell both had solid debuts in the 400 Meters placing 14thand 15th. While Jaeda Rivera ran the school record in the 60 Meter Hurdles.
