Canes Close Out Regular Season Strong

The Louisburg Hurricanes track team may have had their final regular season meet Saturday in Winston-Salem, but they were not to end the season without some solid performances, and another batch of school records at the DMR Invitational

The Canes opened the meet on Friday night with the posting of a National Qualification mark in the Distance Medley Relay. The team of Anthony Hall, Levin Koonce, Qua-Ronz Robinson, and Walker Hirsch booked their ticket to Kansas with a time of 10:37.

Saturday was more of the same as several school records were broken and national qualification marks hit. Opening the day Zion Munnelyan made his first collegiate final in the 60 Meter dash by running a school record 7.10. He would go on to lower his record in that final to 7.08 good enough for a 7th place finish.

Aveon Reid broke his teammate Levin Koonce's school record in the 400 with a time of 50.94. Both athletes will be competing at nationals. Kyle Hinson moved into 3rd in the nation in the 3,000 meter race running a time of 8:29 which lowered his own school record by an astounding 11 seconds.

Finally Walker Hirsch Qualified for nationals in the mile race by running a time of 4:22 he will compete in both the mile
and 1 KM race at the national championships.

The lady 'Canes had many PR's as well, highlighted by Imperial Harris's run in the 800 Meters
with a time of 2:33 and Daijah Miles run in the 200 Meters with a time of 26.8. Imperial barely missed setting the school record in the event, and Daijah became the 3 rd female to break last years school record of 27.02 and the 3 rd female to break the 27 second barrier.
