Men's soccer win a thriller in overtime over the 17th ranked team in the nation

The Louisburg Men's Soccer Team won another road thriller Tuesday night, defeating the Richard Bland Statesmen 2-1 in overtime. Richard Bland took a 1-0 lead into halftime, and after an offensive onslaught by the Hurricanes in the second half, Louisburg sophomore Ryan Goldsmith converted a penalty kick to even the game at 1-1 in the 90th minute, sending the game to overtime. The Hurricanes didn't need long, however, scoring in the first minute of the overtime period on another Goldsmith penalty kick to win the game on golden goal. The Hurricanes have won in the final minutes of the game in two consecutive matches, after overcoming a one-goal deficit at Wake Tech last Friday and scoring two goals in the 90th minute to win 3-2. The win against the #17 ranked Statesmen takes Louisburg to 5-3 overall on the year, and to 5-1 in Region 10 play. It was Richard Bland's first loss on the season, taking them to 10-1 overall and 8-1 in Region 10 play. Louisburg faces USC Lancaster on Friday in Lancaster, SC. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
