Men's Basketball Triumphs on Sophomore Day

Louisburg College men's basketball hosted Wake Tech in Roger Taylor Arena on Saturday for the final regular season game of the year.

It was also sophomore day. Among those honored were: Omar Brown a 6'0 point guard from Gainesville, Florida and Eastside High School; Jimmy Forte a 6'2 guard from Wilson, North Carolina and Community Christian High School; Jamel Marbuary a 6'2 guard from High Point, North Carolina; and Almando Cyrius a 6'3 guard from Vero Beach, Florida and Vero Beach High School.

The Hurricanes started the game in foul trouble. At half time Wake Tech was 17-22 from the free throw line and Louisburg did not yet have an attempt, but Louisburg was still able to maintain the lead 46-44 due to excellent shooting at the start. In the second half Wake Tech was excellent at the free throw line again, but Louisburg held them to 12 attempts and were able to pull out the 101-93 win.

Almando Cyrius led the Hurricanes with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Jimmy Forte had 20 points as he was 6-10 from the floor, 3-6 from three, and 5-5 from the free throw line. Omar Brown added 16 points including 4 threes. Ayinde Taylor II had a double double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Jayden Munson rounds out double figure scorers with 10 points.

Collectively, the Hurricanes were just shy of 50% from the floor and had 11 three point makes. Defensively, Louisburg caused 17 Wake Tech turnovers while only having 12 of their own.

The win puts the Hurricanes regular season record at 17-12, 14-8 in league play. It also secures a fourth place finish and a bye in the first round of the region tournament. Men's basketball will tip off Friday at 2:00 at Cape Fear Community College against the winner of Catawba Valley and Johnston Community College.
