Men's Season Ends in Overtime

Louisburg College men's basketball traveled to #2 Wake Tech Tuesday night for the Region 10 Tournament Quarterfinals. The game ended in overtime with a Louisburg loss 110-107.

The Hurricanes took an early 11 point lead in the first 4 minutes, but Wake Tech countered to be up by 1 with 12 minutes to go in the first half. By half time Wake Tech led 38-35. The second half was high scoring for both teams. Shayne Saigo had 40 points for Wake Tech while Justin Stephens had an incredible night for Louisburg with 31 points on 9 made three-pointers. One of Stephens' threes came at the buzzer to end regulation and tie the game. 117 points were scored in the second half. In overtime the teams traded buckets including a Jahiem Niblett run out dunk to put Louisburg ahead, but the Hurricanes could not hold on and lost in the end by 3 points.

The Hurricanes shot 49% from the floor, made 14 threes, but were only 11-19 (58%) from the free throw line.

Other scorers for Louisburg were: Luke Jones (25 pts, 6 ast); Almando Cyrius (22 pts, 9 reb); Jimmy Forte (11 pts, 4 ast); Jahiem Niblett (11 pts, 9 reb); Kevin Boykin (5 pts; 5 reb; 4 blk); and Amadi Lee-Kane (2 pts).

"We've trusted Justin [Stephens] with a last second shot three times in his career here. I'm happy for him that he was able to hit one tonight, extend the game, and have a good overall performance," said Coach Bryan Bagwell. "I'm lucky to have been able to coach all of these guys. It hasn't been the year we expected, but when the game ended tonight I was proud of what we did."

The loss ends men's basketball season at Louisburg College with Luke Jones, Justin Stephens, Kevin Boykin, and Harry Cash pursuing graduation and opportunities at 4 year universities.
