Men's Basketball doesn't convert for win

Men's basketball faced off against Catawba Valley Community College in Roger Taylor Arena on Saturday, February 12. Catawba Valley won the first meeting in Hickory against a shorthanded Hurricanes team.

Catawba Valley took a 12-3 lead early, but the Hurricanes were able to get within 1 at the 12:00 mark. Louisburg took the lead 43-40 by half time. Out of the locker room Louisburg went up 53-48 in the first 4 minutes, but then Catawba Valley went on several big runs for much of the rest of the second half. By the end though, Louisburg got to the free throws line twice with under a minute to play with a chance to tie, but could not convert.

All 5 starters were in double figures: Luke Jones (21), Jimmy Forte (14), Jahiem Niblett (12), Justin Stephens (12), and Almando Cyrius (10).

Jones had 8 assists and 5 steals, while Cyrius lead the Hurricanes with 7 rebounds.

"I thought we defended their actions well, but we needed to contest shots better," said Coach Bryan Bagwell. "Early in the second half we had a chance to grow our lead and we weren't consistent enough on either end of the floor to get it done. Even so, we had several opportunities to pull it out."

Louisburg College men's basketball will take the floor again tomorrow against Southwest Virginia as they fight for tournament seeding. The game will be played in Roger Taylor Arena at 1:00 pm.
