Men's Basketball falls in overtime

Louisburg College men's basketball travelled to Thomasville to take on Davidson-Davie Community College Thursday for a rematch of last year's Region X championship. The game did not disappoint.

The first half was played evenly, with the Hurricanes up 2 going into the locker room 37-35, and the second half was much of the same back and forth. With 8 minutes remaining in the game Louisburg had extended their lead to 69-62, but that did not last for long. The lead dwindled until Louisburg found themselves down 80-83 with 15 seconds left. The Hurricanes inbounded to Malik Bryant in the backcourt who got into the lane and found JahQuez Sanders in the corner. Sanders knocked down the 3 to send the game into overtime.

At the end of regulation the score was 83-83, but Davidson-Davie was able to score quick buckets and cause several Louisburg turnovers to win 103-90.

"Coach Ridge did a great job making the adjustment to trap ball screens in overtime," said Coach Bryan Bagwell. "They forced two quick turnovers and we were never able to recover."

Davidson-Davie outscored Louisburg at the free throw line by 28 points. They amassed 57 free throw attempts--causing four Hurricanes players to foul out--while Louisburg only attempted 28 free throws in the contest.

Malik Bryant led Louisburg with 19 points and 5 steals. Raja Milton had 17 points and 5 assists. JahQuez Sanders finished 6-11 from the field for 14 total points.

The loss leaves Louisburg at 2-1 in region play and 2-2 overall. The Hurricanes will take the floor on a quick turnaround to face Patrick Henry Community College Saturday at 3:00 in Roger Taylor Arena.
