Men's basketball rout Southside Community College 117-83 to kick off the 2017-18 season

Louisburg College men's basketball team picked up their first win of the 2017-18 season Friday night in a 117-83 rout of Southside Community College inside Roger Taylor Arena. The game also served as the first of the Holiday Inn of Wake Forest Basketball Tournament.

The Hurricanes, now sitting at 1-0 on the young season, jumped out early and never looked back throughout the contest leading 57-34 at the halftime break.

Louisburg finished with six players in double figure points - lead by Lewis Freeman with 21 on the evening. Also in double figures were Jalen Gaddy with 18, Jordan Oakley with 16, JD Wade with 14, Armoni Lee with 12 and Marquise Riley with 11.  Four of the six Canes in double figures came off the bench to generate the offense and show the depth that third year Head Coach Neil Dixon has brought into the program.

The second half saw more Louisburg offense, scoring 60 in the second 20 minutes. Southside also generated more offense in the second period, as the Cardinals posted 49.

"Believe it or not we do spend tons or practice time on defense," said Dixon of his squad. "You sure couldn't tell it tonight.  I thought at times we played hard but it's got to be more consistent."

Up next for the Canes is the quick turnaround for tomorrow's second game of their home tournament against CCBC Catonsville. Tip is slated for 4pm
