Canes Close Out 2016 On A High Note

Louisburg men's basketball picked up their 8th win of the season on Monday night, defeating Vance-Granville 97-71.

The Canes came out to a slow start, leading the Vanguards by just 7 points at the half. "We are still searching, like so many teams are, for a complete 40 minutes," explained head coach Neil Dixon. "We just couldn't seem to get on track in the first half on either end of the floor."

Louisburg found a way to step up in the second half, and the offense became a team effort. Mikeil Watkins and Tyrell Sabb led the charge with 14 points a piece.  Three other Hurricanes all scored 12 points:  Josh Bougher, Troy Locke, and Jordan Oakley. "A strength of ours is in our numbers," added Dixon. "Different guys have the ability to step up and lead us nightly.  I am very proud of Tyrell Sabb.  His attitude has really changed lately and you can see it in his production on the floor.  He's always been able to score the ball, but he's figuring out that he can impact the game in other ways as well.  He was a huge lift for us to start the second half."

Louisburg will break until after the new year, and will travel to Vance-Granville for a rematch on January 5th in the first game of 2017.
